We are a PATH International accredited, nonprofit, therapeutic riding center that sits on about 40 acres in Boyds, Maryland.
Our facility is in the heart of Montgomery County's Ag Reserve and Potomac Hunt Country, a thriving equine community located 30 miles outside Washington, D.
C.
, with access to indoor/outdoor rings and miles of trails.
Great and Small's purpose is to serve those in our community with physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities through therapeutic riding and key programming.
The full-time Equine Operations Manager position is a 5 day/week schedule (one weekend day required) and reports to the Executive Director.
This position will work with three part-time barn staff and occasionally volunteers and interns.
The Equine Operations Manager will be responsible for overall management of approximately 14 therapy horses and 8-10 horses in Great and Small's small, retirement field boarding operation.
The candidate must demonstrate strong equine management experience (3
years of equine/facility oversight preferred).
Responsibilities include:
Overseeing daily care, feeding, and turnout of all horses on site; Scheduling health program activities with services providers (farriers, vets, etc); Serving as the point of contact with boarders and whole herd health management; Managing inventory and negotiating purchase agreements as appropriate; Overseeing nutrient management program, capital and facility projects and balancing against budget with accurate recordkeeping; Occasionally managing volunteers and interns Our ideal candidate demonstrates the following skills:
Communicate directly and accept guidance from Executive Director; ability to work independently, have horse care and first aid knowledge; facility management including ring dragging a plus; prior experience managing a boarding facility or therapeutic riding barn a plus.

Currently 14 staff, over 120 volunteers, and ten therapy horses come together to provide services to 70 participants each week.
